Whether you are a consumer or distributor, you might get puzzled when asked to choose between Seltzer vs sparkling water.

Many notable beverage brands sell both types of water. These offer a different taste and nutritional value in comparison to regular bottled water.

If you want to consider making one of these types of water available to your customers, you want to know how to distinguish the two. The same goes for if you want to make one of these a regular part of your diet.

Here’s what you need to know:

How The FDA Sees Seltzer VS Sparkling Water

The FDA considers Seltzer water products to be a form of soft drink. This is in sharp contrast to regular, distilled water that gets categorized as “bottled water.” Sparkling water gets categorized as bottled water as well.

As a result, we can expect to see more scrutiny toward Seltzer products. This is especially important if you wish to distribute these products.

    Carbonation

The key difference between Seltzer vs sparkling water lies in their carbonation. Artificial carbonation is found in Seltzers. Seltzers are, therefore, regulated in the same manner that a soft drink would be.

Carbonation in sparkling water products occurs naturally. The bubbles found in sparkling water products tend to be smaller. These refined bubbles are also lighter for consumption.

    Artificial Water

Both types of water products are a form of artificial water. Mineral water has bubbles that occur naturally. As a result, many beverage companies wish to recreate products that offer bubbles to consumers. Both types of water are different attempts to bring the unique taste and refinement of bubbled water to consumers.

Bicarbonate salt gets used to produce the bubbles in sparkling water. Seltzer water is natural water that has bubbles pumped into it. The bubbles remain consistent, though the tastes vary.

Both types of water have a ‘fizz’ or a kick to them. Consumers, as a general rule, prefer one type of water to another. For a distributor, one would wish to consider selling both types of water as a test run. After looking at sales figures, one can decide upon which type of water is better for customers.

If you wish to create these types of water, you want to look into investing in a great water filling line.

    Other Differences

So what are the other differences between Seltzer vs sparkling water?

Seltzer can work as an alternative to club soda. If you run a bar, you might wish to have Seltzer on hand to mix into cocktails.

As a general rule, Seltzer products don’t have any added minerals. There are some Seltzer brands that will incorporate added minerals for an extra taste.

Sparkling water will always have added minerals. These will include magnesium, sodium, and calcium. The amount of these minerals depend on the brand you choose.

Sparkling water focuses more on taste than Seltzers.

    Choose Your Water

Now that you know the key differences between Seltzer vs sparkling water, you can choose what’s best for you or your company. Make sure you try both of these waters first before you decide which is best for you.
