Earth Day is celebrated on 22nd April every year. The main motive of celebrating this day was to protect the environment. It is also marked as the birth anniversary of the modern environmental movement in 1970. The day, Earth Day continues to be a momentous and unifying day.
Earth Day is widely recognized as the largest observance in the world. It is marked by more than billion people every year. The day is an action to change human behavior. Also to create global, national and local policy changes.
History:
The Earth Day was first focused on the United States but now it is celebrated globally. Julien Koenig was a Madison Avenue giant. Denis Hayes asked Koenig to decide the name to keep for the day. He told Hayes to keep Earth Day. Hayes agreed and the day is called and celebrated as Earth Day.
Denis Hayes was the original national coordinator in 1990. But in 1970, he took it internationally and also organized the events in 141 nations. It includes the signing of the Paris Agreement. Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson planted the first seeds on the first Earth Day. The Paris Agreement was signed by US, China and other 120 countries on Earth Day, 2016.
After 30 years, in the year 2000 Earth Day, the people around the world wanted quick and conclusive action on global warming.
