Rama Navami

Rama Navami is a Hindu festival which is celebrated throughout India. It is celebrated on ninth day of Chaitra Navratri (ninth day after the new moon in Shukla Paksha (the waxing moon), which falls sometime in the month of April) which mark as the birth of Lord Rama. Lord Rama was the seventh avatar or incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
Lord Rama was eldest son of King Dashrath and Queen Kausalya of Ayodhya. Ramaa Navami is a holiday in India. He was born to destruct the demon king of Lanka “Ravana”.

It is believed that Lord Rama is the giver of everything in life. He is also called as the “Maryadaa Purushottam” which means the ideal Man.

The Day Rama Navami:

On this auspicious day, temples of Rama are decorated, special pujas are performed, and religious discourses (Satsang) are held. From early morning, the devotional music and chants of Rama are played till late night.
Ayodhya, the place of birth of Lord Rama, is decorated many days before this auspicious day. Celebrations here are the most grand and popular. This place is tour destination for many especially for Hindu devotees.
Various organizations celebrate “Ramaotsava” in which musicians perform programs. It is said that listening to the story of Rama cleanses the soul.

Some people pray at home and some visit temple and pray to Lord Rama. Bhajan and Kirtan are also held by many people. Arti and puja are the part of it.

Devotees observe fast and chant Vedic mantras dedicated to Lord Rama and Lord Vishnu, and offer flowers and fruits to God. They also recite Tulsi Ramayan, the epic which recounts the story of great king Rama.
Some devotees observe a ‘Nirahar’ fast (without food) or a ‘Nirjal’ fast (without water), and some devotees follow both some also observe just one ‘Satvik’ meal of potato, fruits, dairy items and rock salt.
